Ruby Throats at the Orange Trumpets
Anyone with a trumpet vine hears hummingbirds before they see them. This plate records a pair of ruby-throats at the blossoms, the way a patient naturalist might have drawn them two centuries ago.
The artwork
Fine linework in the style of hand-coloured copperplate engraving is washed with soft watercolour on a warm parchment-cream ground. The orange trumpet flowers climb around the cup, and the hovering birds sit in the open spaces so each one reads clearly.

Care
Hand wash only, using warm soapy water and a soft sponge. Not dishwasher safe, which protects the print. Not microwave safe, and please do not freeze it. Clean the straw with a slim straw brush and let everything air-dry.
